Green.

At SPC we do more than just offer ‘green’ paper solutions. Organizationally we believe that is our collective responsibility to be better stewards of our environment. To that end, we have joined the Green Business Alliance and greenified our business practices.

Through the formation of a “green committee” we have switched our facility lighting, vastly expanded our recycling program and reduced our land-fill bound waste by up to 50%. We continue to investigate alternative energy resources, alternate roofing and other ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

Green Business Alliance
With the guidance of Green Business Alliance, SPC has become a “greenified” company and continues to implement specific green operating procedures that benefit both the environment and its clients, while also enhancing the planet’s ecological health.

FSC Certification
Making environmentally responsible choices is a priority here at Specialty Print Communications. The most significant proof of our commitment is that we’ve achieved Chain Of Custody Certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC is a non-profit, independent organization that was established in Washington in 1995. FSC coordinates the development of forest management standards and promotes the practice of sustainable forestry throughout the U.S.

Our certification ensures the paper and paper-related products used in your program have been produced from responsibly managed forests. The process is certified as part of a chain of custody that will manage and protect our forests for future generations. We also have a certified FSCExpert™ on staff who helps clients choose environmentally appropriate and socially responsible paper.

SFI Certification
SFI, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, provides certification to companies that adhere to the principles of sustainable forestry and reforestation. Of the leading certification programs in the United States, the SFI program is the only North American forest certification program that maintains strict separation between standard setting and accreditation of certifying bodies. We have completed all the independent audits and have received full SFI certification.

PEFC Certification
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an independent, non-profit, non-government organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. The group oversees sustainable forest management practices globally to maintain the environmental, social and economic benefits of preserving forests for present and future generations.

SPC has succeeded in obtaining its PEFC Chain Of Custody Certification, more proof of our commitment to continuum of sustainable forestry practices.

Chain Of Custody Certification is an assessment from an independent, qualified and accredited expert who verifies in writing that the wood flow accounting system applied by an enterprise to trace the flow of wood from certified forests through the enterprise, meets the exacting requirements of the certification scheme.

Recycle Please!

It’s shocking to think that most direct mail is not being recycled. In fact, only 30% of direct mail is recycled vs. 73% of newspapers1. That’s why we’re 100% in support of the recycling program started by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). They’ve created a blue-basket icon that you can apply to your direct mail program, encouraging recipients to recycle the pieces you send them.

The icon is free for DMA members to download and use. For more information, visit www.recycleplease.org and get on board with this important initiative. Before long, it will become a consumer habit and we can all feel good about that.
